The concept behind LitePhone was to create a minimalist “dumbphone” powered by a low-energy microcontroller (MCU) to ensure extended battery life. The device was designed to be free of bloatware and spyware, with a fully open-source software ecosystem.

LitePhone, originally conceived as a passion project, evolved into a final project for the CS 4250: Computer Architecture course. The project, developed by Reece Brutsman and Ian Fraize, encountered numerous challenges throughout its conceptual phase. It was later expanded upon into Reece Brutsman’s Senior Project.

As part of the Senior Project, the requirement was to develop six comprehensive labs for the first half of the CS 4250: Computer Architecture course at Plymouth State University.
